Additional Cost Considerations

There are numerous elements that can increase the costs of your patio terrace;

  • Access to the garden - the minimum flat access width required is 0.9m to allow materials to be moved in, in wheelbarrows but also turf cutter and rotavator for clearance and preparation. This access should be slope and slope free. If access is tricky for example over steps, through a garage, steep, a long distance between front and back gardens, there will be an increase in costs.

  • Additional clearance - costs are based on a typical clearance, often removing an old lawn, maybe extending into the lawn area to make it larger. Where there is additional clearance to remove old planting, changing levels or demolishing structures to create the lawn area there will be an increase in costs for labour, plant hire and waste disposal.

  • Lawn Edging - to keep your lawn edges neat and tidy it is recommended a lawn edging is installed. This will reduce maintenance costs and time. Lawn edging comes in various options - the most popular options are metal edging and brick pavers.

  • Complicated shapes - the shape or pattern of a lawn may affect the costs. Complicated shapes can increase the normal 10% wastage allowance for the turf. As it is cut to shape it isn’t recommended to lay small pieces as the dry out quickly. This may lead to additional quantity of turf required.

  • Special turf type - special turf blend like for shade or wildflower grass are more expensive than the family garden turf.

Aftercare Costs

Regularly mowing through the growing season is required. This is something you can either manage yourself or employ a company or individual to do it for you.

Lawn treatment product costs like weed and feed granules are minimal. You can often buy lawn treatments from your local DIY store.

In the Autumn it is recommended the lawn is scarified and aerated to improve it’s health. You can do this yourself or hire someone to carry out this lawn care. We would charge around £525 per day for labour plus any material or equipment hire charges.
